POLEVIK
Function: Son of Veles, also called Polevoj. God Veles entrusted him with the management of crops and livestock, making Polevik the god of fields and pastures. All field spirits and field fairies are subordinate to him.
Image: The height of this deity is like the height of ears of corn in a field. His hair is the color of ripe grain and he is often depicted with small buns. He is dressed in a sheepskin coat and carries a shepherd's staff. He is helped by a three-headed dog when guarding cattle and grain.
Symbols: Shepherd's Dog, shepherd's staff, flails, sheaves of corn.
Sacrifices: Bread, porridge, grain, and actually all agricultural crops, eggs, wool, leather and fur, milk, sheep, goats.
Holidays: Holidays are the days when the farm is turned out to pasture for the first time after winter, the first plowing, sowing of grain, or even the harvest. So his biggest holidays were celebrated in this period. The holiday reserved for him was the day during the full moon before August 1.
Note: It can be said that, in addition to field spirits and fairies, Polevik watches over various other beings connected with agriculture, but also beings connected with the home. Invoking beings tasked with protecting not only the householder's family but also his property is basically one of the oldest human cults, together with the invocation of ancestors.
