The New Sun in the form of little god KOLIADA is growing and getting stronger. In fact, it is quite noticeable that it gets brighter earlier and gets darker later. This is what the old proverb says: ONE STEP FORWARD AT THE THREE KINGS!
According to the name of this holiday, we might think that it is a purely Christian holiday. But we can say with certainty that the natural changes occurring on the sixth day of January were obvious even to our ancestors. Therefore, we can happily perceive the arrival of the Three Kings, who come to bow to the newborn, as the arrival of three deities - Svarog, Perun and Veles. In Slavic mythology, these three deities are seen as the Three Kings who rule in individual worlds, interconnected and forming our Universe.
In the Slavic tradition, we also know the deity TRIGLAV, who is, as his name suggests, a three-headed god. His three faces symbolize the three sons of God Rod, namely Svarog, Perun and Veles. As the ruler of the three worlds, Epiphany could be dedicated to him.
On this day, since ancient times, the ceremony of consecrating water directly in streams or rivers has been performed. People washed themselves in this water, or sprinkled it with bramble. The water was brought in jugs to the dwellings, and its power was used for magical ceremonies throughout the following year. During the consecration, an apple (the symbol of Koliad) was put into the jars, and salt and chalk were placed next to the jars. This salt and chalk were sprinkled with this water, and thus they also acquired magical powers.
It was also customary to sprinkle water over the dwelling, then it was sprinkled with consecrated salt, and finally all the doors and windows were outlined with three-king chalk. This ceremony was supposed to ensure the purification and protection of the home from the powers of evil and the intrusion of dark beings, such as strigs or plagues.
If we already have three kings' chalk, why not draw the symbols of the three kings above the door and write S+P+V?
